11-30 March

An absolutely, amazing, quirky show from the German Pilobolus Dance troupe. Premiering at the Peacock Theatre, which is renowned for its diversity of shows, this theatrical event is the first of its kind to tour the World. SHADOWLAND combines shadow theatre, dance, circus and music, to portray the story of a young girl’s coming of age in a dream world. She meets a series of strange creatures along her way, at once comic and evil, threatening and seductive; mad chefs try to cook her in a soup, hunch-hand monsters threaten to crush her, a giant hand transforms her into a dog, before a powerful centaur finds a way into the dog-girl’s heart… and bed.

To create the dynamic effect, the various moving screens are used to merge projected images and vibrant front-of screen choreography. Look out for the shadows of the Seahorse and Elephant, absolutely brilliant imagination is required to create the finished look.

Pilobolus’s unique shadow dance work has inspired many other companies and productions around the world, including the winners of Britain’s Got Talent 2013.

Created by Steven Banks, lead writer for popular animated series SpongeBob Square Pants SHADOWLAND has been seen by almost one million people worldwide.

The sequences of New York and London Calling are hilarious and the last shadow displaying ‘Cheers London’ had the audience applauding.

SHADOWLAND celebrates the strange transformative power of the dark to show us who and what we are in unexpected and thrilling ways.

The fabulous, international street dance sensation Blaze returns to London after its explosive world premiere in 2010. The collective talent of 16 dancers from around the world, the show brings together street dance and break dance. For the dance purists the terminology preferred is popping, locking and breaking which includes gravity-defying freezes in the air!

A non-stop 1.5 hours of powerful energy where some quirky moves will have you gasping in your seats. The creative team behind this theatrical show have worked with the world’s top performers including The Rolling Stones, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé. The amazing sets which have digital screening backdrops and four dimensional lighting have been designed by Es Delvin whose work includes designing the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony.

Featuring music by Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, David Guetta and Snoop Dogg, Blaze takes the raw energy and athleticism of street dance and combines it with high production values, resulting in a show that’s perfect for the whole family.

There’s a real quirky act which features the ‘Atomic Food Dance.’ Amazing fun where, the dancers get the whole audience to participate, the lyrics are very catchy and dance moves hilarious!

A unique show where there is no restriction on the audience for using cameras or videos. Highly recommend to take video footage as some of the dance routines are unbelievably mesmerising and can easily be watched again and again.

For the first time this year, London will be participating in the World Tennis Day Showdown. Launched last year, as a cooperative venture between Star Games and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to promote tennis, professional players will play on the same day as grassroots participation events take place at clubs and courts around the globe. Over 60 nations have already confirmed to take part.

Each player in the three Showdown events in Hong Kong, London and New York City is an active or former professional who has either been ranked World No. 1 or reached the final at a Grand Slam tournament, if not both.

Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Pat Cash and Ivan Lendl will return to London to recreate two historic Wimbledon finals. The evening will begin with Cash taking on Lendl followed by the iconic rivalry of Agassi versus Sampras. Agassi and Sampras played each other 34 times during their professional careers, with Sampras winning 20 of those matches. Two of their encounters came at Wimbledon, with Sampras winning both the 1999 final and a 1993 quarterfinal over Agassi.

The big four, combined to win 224 singles titles during their professional careers, including 31 Grand Slam titles. These four players also combined to hold the World No. 1 ranking for a total of 657 weeks.

Lendl who has reconnected with the London fans through his coaching of Andy Murray, the 2013 Wimbledon champion and 2012 London Olympic Games gold medallist says, “The London fans have always been knowledgeable about tennis and, through Andy, I have developed a closer relationship over the past two years so this will be a special night for me.”

The events will also feature junior and wheelchair demonstrations, including the ITF’s Tennis Play and Stay campaign, a global initiative launched in 2007 aimed at increasing tennis participation worldwide. The campaign centres around the slogan of ‘Serve, Rally and Score’ and seeks to promote tennis as an easy, fun and healthy sport through the use of slower and lower bouncing balls, shorter and lighter rackets, and smaller courts. Under the Tennis Play and Stay banner, the Tennis10s programme makes it easier for children to take up the game, while TennisXpress is an easy, active and fun coaching programme for adults.

An important date in the tennis calendar and an event not to be missed.
