Its 150th Anniversary of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll and The Montagu is “off their heads” in Mad Hatter style as they offer guests a magnificent experience in their restaurant overlooking Portman square garden. This week is also Royal Ascot and the venue is decorated with more than 20 outstanding hats from Lomax & Skinner.

The Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea filled with “curiouser and curiouser” treats, includes many “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” options.  The “Cheeky Cheshire Cat” a strawberry chocolate cream mousse was a favourite as was the “Mad Hatter’s” vanilla and strawberry hat with a quirky green colour. The unique names given to all the options are taken from the Alice’s story and are all very fresh and tasty.

The savoury options are just as adventurous starting with a mock turtle gazpacho soup served from a teapot! The “Rabbit Hole” ham hock-tomato cones very surprisingly tasty as were the, “We’re All Mad Here” swirly salmon rolls.

A definite must have addition to the tea is a bespoke “Drink Me” “Eat Me” cocktail created by the talented team at The Churchill Bar & Terrace. Taking inspiration from Alice the cocktail incorporates a double shot of gin, custard-like vanilla, cherry liquer, pineapple juice, red grenadine and buttered toast pineapple foam. Accompanied with a quirky “Eat me” pocket watch and a toffee cherry” this potent cocktail is served in a quirky glass and is very, very tasty!

Those unable to finish all of their tasty treats will be welcome to take them home as The Montague has perfect packaging for them.

Once a week, one lucky guest has a chance to win The Montagu’s Saturday New York Italian Style Brunch for two and once a month the chance to win an ‘Explore London’ overnight stay if they find a small golden key hidden in their tea set!
