Avon Gorge Hotel, Bristol

Perfectly located on a cliff top with a birds-eye view of the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge (1864) and panoramic views of the Somerset Hills and Gorge, the Avon Gorge Hotel is the premier choice for those wanting spectacular vistas in the South West. Part of the Swire Hotel group, which offer chic, urban hotels, this Victorian hotel dates back to 1898 and was popular with the likes of Cary Grant and other celebrities as it was close-by to the BBC Bristol studios. The contemporary look of the hotel has done justice to this Grade II listed building.  The distance from London is 100 miles which makes it a great place for a mid-week break or weekend away.

Situated in the fashionable district of Bristol, Clifton village, it is perfect location for discovering the numerous independent, quirky shops (of which Bristol has the highest percentage in the whole of the U.K) and is walking distance to the town centre. Bristol is a unique city as it is a collection of distinct villages and by discovering it on foot you sense the distinctive vibes. The colourful buildings, friendly Bristolians and lush green spaces (Bristol has over 450) are what make this a beautiful city. Bristol has won an award which will see it become the European Green Capital in 2015. This year also celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Clifton Bridge, so lots of upcoming celebrations.

Bristol has had over 1,000 years of maritime trade which exudes a colourful historic past. It is also famous for Concorde (1965-2003) and the Gorge wildlife which has been designated a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). There are over 30 rare plants growing on the cliffs 90m high above the Gorge and is thus an exceptional botanical site in the U.K.
