CELEBRATING 250 YEARS!

VEUVE CLICQUOT SOLAIRE CULTURE LONDON 2023
Veuve Clicquot’s Solaire Culture - First-ever global travelling exhibition.

To celebrate its 250th anniversary, Maison Veuve Clicquot gathered nine female artists to portray Madame Clicquot in their vision of a 19th century Renaissance woman who pushed the boundaries and paved the way way for generations of female entrepreneurs.

Explore Veuve Clicquot’s cultural imprint from 1772 to the present day at Piccadilly Circus in London this Summer 2023.
This was my favourite image by Penelope Bagieu. The background of the image has ink stains, blending natural tones that show the birth of rosé champagne. On the left is the origin. rosé - a wine coloured with a dye made from elderberries. On the right is the revolutionary process invented by Madame Clicquot, who is represented at the centre of the image. It consists of blending white wine with red from Pinot Noir grapes. 'This has become the standard process for blending a rose with a distinctive style.
Facsimile of Maison Veuve Clicquot's First Accounting Book, open on the page that records the first shipment of Clicquot champagne to the United Kingdom in 1773. At the bottom of the right-hand page, the very first registered shipment of Clicquot champagne was in tiny writing: writing: Ordered by d'Arsass of Brightenton in England at the address of Poulard in Dieppe 3 crates: 2 sparkling and 1 non sparkling"
When Madame Clicquot became the head of the House in 1805, she was determined to make Veuve Clicquot one of the most desirable brands in Great Britain. Queen Victoria most likely enjoyed a glass of Clicquot, as in1868 the House received its first direct order from the Royal household. Widowed at the age of only 27, against her father-in-law's wishes and society's expectations, she took control of her own destiny and became the first modern women entrepreneur. She not only to take charge of the vineyard, but turned the business around singlehandedly. Renaming it after herself the "Widow Clicquot"- VEUVE CLICQUOT- she transformed the champagne house into a brand of excellence and made it shine the world over.
Her optimism, pragmatism and free-spiritedness is what made her a force to be reckoned with! Madame Clicquot, "la grande dame de la Champagne' Her iconic sayings: "I want my brand to rank first, from New York to Saint Petersburg' "Only one quality the finest." "Our wines must be flattering both to the palate and the eye."
One item from the exhibition which really stood out as notable..a letter from Madame Clicquot to her cousin Mademoiselle Gard Letertre in Paris, in which she highlights the importance of being "dependent on no one" Reims, 17 November 1814. In 1866 - Madame Clicquot dies at the age of 89, leaving behind a flourishing global business and a legacy that still inspires Veuve Clicquot today.
Over the decades various collaborations and uniqueness showcases how the brand has evolved over time. Madame Clicquot, icon and pioneer whose creativity and lust for innovation led to many firsts in Champagne: 🍾the first known vintage champagne 🍾the invention of the riddling table 🍾the first known blended rosé champagne.
Veuve Clicquot's 393 hectares of vineyards are situated in the most reputed locations of the Champagne region, largely thanks to Madame Clicquot's foresight. Here, three grape varieties are grown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier. The vineyard is managed through sustainable farming with zero herbicides, eco-grazing, the use of green manure and the hand-picking of grapes. Madame Clicquot, has built businesses through the force of her talent, strength and personality. A true inspiration for every single woman out there!
Enjoy the exhibition and paint the town yellow! Today, 95% of rosé champagnes are made using the process invented by Madame Clicquot in 1818.
There is a Cafe and Gift Shop at the end of the exhibition so you can indulge!
